Gratitude.
I always think, soon we'll have all this free time. Things will slow down a bit. They don't, do they? One season moves into the next. Shorts and teeshirts one day, wool sweater the next.

We've dug the dahlias, gotten the tulips in for next spring and started the fall clean up (hoses!! they seem to be everywhere!). On the list is gathering up all the tools and getting their handles sanded, oiled and ready for spring. It feels a bit slower, but that's an illusion as we get things lined up for Thanksgiving and the winter holiday season.
But today. Today was kind of slow. I watched TV mid-day! Ok, I was at the stove making mac n cheese and chili but - I was able to watch on the iPad while wishing cheese sauce. And it was - relaxing.
I also worked on flower orders for Thanksgiving. Thank you to all of you who ordered. Not only for your business, but for the opportunity to create something beautiful for your family - it makes me happy to work on these arrangements, knowing families will be gathered together, eating yummy food, and just *being*. I think we all could use that right now.
On the road...
Today is the first day of our flower prick-ups and I'm so excited! How great is it when you hand someone something and they smile? Well, that's what I am doing today. Give flowers. See smile. Love it!

Then tomorrow morning I'm flying out to Washington state for a wildflower design intensive with the good folks at Floret! (((now I'm smiling))) Her dahlias are in full bloom so I am really looking forward to seeing that show.
But most of all, I'm looking forward to the GOOD ENERGY that ill be present in the room. Creative, vibrant energy of many hands working together to create beauty and abundance. Here's to flower power!
Dog Days of Summer
If there is anything that defines a New Jersey summer - it is humidity.
If there is anything that defines a New Jersey summer - it is humidity. We're heading into the 90's today with 1000% humidity. These are the days when we work early and then again in the evening. Mid-day is awful.
On the bright side - all the seeds that I planted this week will probably go crazy. Why so many seeds?
It seems my grand plan of keeping the resident woodchucks at bay by getting a dog didn't really work out...
Ole Chuckster got into the main garden and made a total mess of my vegetables. It is heartbreaking when that happens (actually, it pisses me off to no end... why be polite about it?!). Lucky for me, there was still time to get a new round of seeds in and with this heat & moisture... well, we'll have a re-stocked garden in no time. Sans lettuce though...
WE'RE HERE!
When friends ask friends to help with plants... something magical happens....
Thanks for visiting us here in the digital world! After several years of family and friends (and then friends of friends) asking for flower arrangements, garden designs or plant health “911” calls, we made the leap and created Fairview Farm and Flowers. We hope you enjoy following our botanical adventures, farm life with our small flock of chickens, honeybees, and other critters, as well as stories from the ever-on-going restoration of our 1800’s home.
We’re so excited to be here with you! So jump in with your ideas, thoughts and questions!
